In a workshop with product design students from Srinakharinwirot University we discussed what we learned from the hill tribe people.
None of the students had ever visited a hill tribe village before. After making the connections visible between high and low land using a 3D paper model, students identified the problems they have in the city.
These ranged from environmental issues to problems in the families, unemployment, corruption and crime, which often lead to a system of mistrust among citizens.
Building on the knowledge we learned from the hill people, teams of students came up with ideas to address their urban problems and find creative solutions for them.
In a public presentation, these ideas were exhibited together with models and maps.
Somsak Boonkam (Pai) and Suratchana Pakavaleetorn (Noon) from the community based tourist initiative Local Alike also gave more details on lives and economic situations of villagers in different parts of Thailand.
